The founder of Patek watches was Antoine Norbert de Patek, born in a small village Piaski, in Poland. He was a sales man before stepping into watch making. In 1839 Patek and another Polish emigrant Francois Czapek [watch maker]; Joined hands and founded the “Patek, Czapek & Cie”. But they both fell out of this venture after the contract was over in 1845, and the company name changed to “Patek & Cie”.
Jean-Adrien Philippe was also a watch maker; his expertise had impressed Patek very much. So when Czapek fell out of the business, Patek invited him to be the technical Director in his firm. After this the company’s name became “Patek & Co.” on 15 May 1845. And in 1851, when Philippe became officially associated, it became “Patek Philippe & Cie”.
The brand has a very special symbol [emblem of Spanish knights] that signs the Patek Philippe watches today. The founder of the brand died in 1877. And his associate Jean-Adrien Philippe died in 1894. The company was then purchased by Charles et Jean Stern brothers; it is being run independently by the Stern family currently.
In spite of such a change of hands; the brand has kept the tradition of excellence at its top priority. They have devised two revolutionary developments.
1. The silicon escape wheel for a Swiss lever escapement.
2. The Spiromax balance spring made of a silicone-based material.
Patek watches presented their first silicon-based watch in 2005. They make their special watches in limited numbers, thus making them rare. So if someone finds a Patek he better buy it than repent. These high class branded watches are as good as their replicas. Buying one fake Patek watch is way more economical than an original one. It takes good hard work to produce a replica too. Precaution should be taken to avoid diving, swimming or bathing with the replica on.
